HER Lab focuses on novel engineered treatment systems for renewable energy generation and low-energy treatment of impaired streams that could be impactful in transforming how water, energy, and other natural resources are managed. Our research intersects at the water-energy-food nexus, and aims at advancing fundamental knowledge and applications of stand-alone and hybrid membrane systems in decentralized settings, and in gaining insight to the technical, economic, and environmental life-cycle impacts of these technologies for process scale-up—this is achieved by implementing a system level approach that drives process experimentation, which enables development, adoption, and widespread use of advanced treatment systems that realize waste streams as a circular resource.
